Update from John:
Last winter the car went through a complete overhall in an effort to take off unwanted weight and to get the car to hook better. When we started the weight distribution was 56% front and 44% rear. Total weight with me in it was 3450. We had our work cut out for us. Wade Hopkins at Southern Speed in Tupelo Mississippi was the man responsible for getting the job done. I had him go ahead and finish out the 8 point bar into a full 10 point cage for safety. He then removed everything I didn't need...and put the car back together. The engine was moved back nearly 2". The intercooler was moved to the back seat along with countless other weight reductions. When we finished it weighed 3200 with me in it. The weight distrubution was 50-50. I also sold the street PTK turbo kit I ran last year and bought a set of used turbo headers. Wade completely fabbed up the rest of the kit himself. The car was finished the night before the shootout in San Antonio. We drove it about 10 miles and loaded up for the trip. The car ran great at the shootout with the best time being 9.56 @ 150. This was with just 15-16 psi coming from the GTS-T76. I eventually turned it up to 20-22 psi and ran 122 in the 1/8 mile which would be around 156 in the 1/4. As it always is....fast is never fast enough. I replaced the T-76 with a Precision PT-88 and also switched to a glide. The car responded by running 5.88 @ 126 in the 1/8 grabbing high boost only in 2nd gear. This was also on 275/60 drag radials. Thanks definately goes Wade at Southern Speed for doing an excellent job on all aspects of the car.

Future plans: (From March 2003)
Get the tune just right on the car (safe) and then turn it up to 20 psi and see what it will do.

Background:
I bought the car about 2 years ago from a freind. It had the basic bolt-ons, you know gears, exaust, pulleys, MSD ect. The car was in immaculate condition with only 24,000 miles. Not a scratch on it. I drove for maybe a month or so and decided it was time for more power. I bought a set of TFS heads, E-303 camshaft, and a Procharger P1SC. At this time I barely could change a sparkplug without help so I let a freind install the parts who had alot of experience working on Mustangs. Everything went in pretty well but the car really didn't seem to have alot more power. I took it to a local tuner who was supposed to be pretty good. When I picked the car up it ran like a bat outta hell. After I got the car home I noticed oil coming out of the valve cover breather. It was also smoking anytime I touched the throttle. Come to find out the guy that tuned the car for me gave me a hole in the # 8 piston at no extra charge!! What a guy!

I then took the car to Johnson's Motorsports. Finally someone that knows what they are doing. I had a DSS 306 pro bullet shipped to him. He then assembled/installed the motor and supercharger. Tuned the car to a safe, powerful tuneup. When I picked it up it ran as smooth as it did when I bought it. I never got any decent track times with this setup due to a slipping clutch and my terrible shifting. So I installed a custom built AOD. The car would run 7.20's all day at around 98mph. I thought that was pretty good cosidering it weighed around 3650 lbs at that time. It didn't take long before I had to go faster.

I called Bennett Racing and had him build me a 331,its really a 327 since we left it std bore. I used a sportsman block for a little extra strength.  At this time I also installed the FAST system and the C-4.  With no other changes the car would run 6.70's all day at 103-104 mph in the 1/8 mile. The only problem was I continued to have trouble with the blower leaking oil. After sending it back several times for a rebuild I had decided enough is enough. Its turbo time!!

I ordered a kit from PTK, it was delivered in 3 weeks. The first time at the track it ran 7.20 at 7psi!! I didn't have a boost controller at that time so I couldn't turn it up any. But I was very pleased. I then decided to go ahead and get a Dart block so I could crank it up as much as I wanted without fear of grenading the sportsman block.  I had Bennett transfer my stroker kit into the dart block. I also let him do some portwork on the heads while it was apart. I changed from the cobra intake to a systemax and that is basically where the car is today. Its only been running for a few weeks with this setup but everything seems to be fine. I won a local drag radial race this weekend and hope to do alot of racing this  year and not much working on the car. I have alot of freinds that have helped out along the way. Thanks Jeff and Patrick. But there has been alot of help from other people as well. We have a good group of guys around here and we have alot of fun...and thats what its all about anyway.
