I will use this section to log everything about my experiences
with the car. I will probably be disgustingly honest and more
than likely I will make myself look like an ass frequently.
6-5-08- It is going to be a very long time before I can afford to put a new engine in the car so I put it up for sale as it sits, broken for a very low price. It sold less than a week later. Buying this car was probably the biggest financial mistake I have ever made. Supras are pretty nice cars but they still break for no apparent reason just like any other car. I never got to experience the car at a high hp level so I don't have a particularly high opinion of them. So I guess the supra is no god's gift to the human race. :-)
March-ish 2008- I had the car back from the shop for less than a day when it blew up on the dyno. I made one pass at a measly 14psi of boost and the borescope says I cracked the piston. This is bullshit because prior to the upgrades I routinely ran 22psi with no problems. So nearly a year of waiting resulting in me driving it about 20 miles and never getting to feel the new power and tranny.
8-24-07- I have all the parts to put the car together
but it is way too hot to work on it. I am also putting the
car up for sale because I just found I am going to be a father.
It kinda sucks to have to sell a car with brand new upgrades without
getting to enjoy them first because everyone knows you don't get
100% of the money you spend on aftermarket parts when you sell a
car. Oh well.

7-17-07- The car is still apart in the garage.
I need to install the new waterpump, fix the waterpump lines etc.
I received the tranny from BL about 2 weeks ago now I am just waiting
for the head to be completed.
5-20-07- Pulled the tranny this week and tore
the head off. The tranny has been shipped to Boost Logic to
get built up along with a 3800 stall converter. The head has
been sent to Bob Westwater and Portworx
Performance. They will be porting and polishing the head,
rebuilding it and installing HKS 274 cams. The door was also
fixed and it looks great, I am glad I didn't have to pay for that
one.
4-9-07- I dyno'd the car on Thursday. I
knew the car was pig rich so I wanted to tune it on the dyno since
it is safer than the frontage road. :) Off the street it put
down 417rwhp at 19psi. I was guessing 422 rwhp so I wasn't
far off. The AF was off the charts rich. We messed with
the GCC and got the AF up to 10.5:1 and the car picked up 30rwhp. The tranny is hitting the limiter on the shifts on the dyno so it
is definitely tired.
Saturday I went to the track for the Eades' Family benefit race.
I knew the car was a lazy pig and I wouldn't be able to do better
than a 2.5 60ft but it was even worse than I thought. The
car didn't hit boost until about the 100ft mark. Then when
it his 2nd gear it spun the tires for quite a while. So I
was wasting the first 200 ft. of track. Best ET was 13.7 @
117mph. What a joke. A v6 mustang was pulling on me
the first 80ft. I did manage to win the Grocery Getter class
and I got an awesome trophy. Before my first pass the redneck
in the lane next to me slammed his door into my passenger door with
his rusted Pinto. That was really awesome. It dented
the door and cracked the paint. Hopefully the number he gave
me is real so he can pay for it. They never opened the scales
so I still don't know what it weighs.
4-5-07- Tore apart the interior, everything from
the front seats back and dynamatted the whole car. It helped
a lot with road noise and exhaust from the muffler. This car
had several structural pieces that show you part of the reason why
the car is so nice and stiff. I will put the pics in the Pics
section.
3-29-07- Here is my list of all the random issues
with the car. I plan to address most of it, some of it is
just griping.
-Valve seals need replaced, this is common on supras, they will
smoke on startup due to this, doesn't affect power or driveability,
seems odd a 50,000 mile car needs them already, passenger side dome
light bulb, Toyota only, Cruise control doesn't work because it
was removed, apparently when most people swap to a single turbo
they remove the cruise control module because it clutters the engine
bay?
-I plan to add wheels, Boost Logic built Toyota Auto, 3800 stall
converter, wideband, and tranny coolers.
-I might add 98 Headlights, cams and an AEM.
On the bright side the car is really nice. It is about 14
years old and the fit and finish is still very nice. It drives
like a dream other than the race car coil overs which will be rectified
shortly. The steering feel is great and the brakes are awesome.
The tranny shifts great. I am really enjoying the car so far
and it will only get better with some different coil overs and a
built tranny.
3-26-07- I defy anyone to ride in a single turbo
supra and leave the car not wanting a Turbo. The pissed off
turbo noise from this car is really awesome. The HKS Super
Sequential BOV might be a bit too loud for my tastes but it does
a good job of showing off the turbo.
3-24-07- I am a Supra owner now. People
stop and stare, I have them kiss my ring and move along. The
car is a white, auto with 52,000 miles.
3-22-07- I went to the owners house to check out
the car. I liked it right away.
The body has no dings or dents and it is straight.
The interior was freshly redone by an upholstery shop. The
dashboard has some warping but I am told this is normal for Supras
that have been in the sun a lot, especially in Arizona. The
car drives very nice, the steering and suspension is great. The
turbo is extremely lazy due to the stock converter but this can
be fixed with aftermarket parts.
3-21-07: I have been looking for a Supra or a
C6 vette for several months now. The C6's are still out of
my price range. I have a knowledgeable person helping me search
for supras. It is nearly impossible to find one under 90,000
miles that is under $30,000. My contact tells me he has a
car. It isn't the color I want and it isn't even the tranny
I want but it does have every power mod I would ever plan to put
on and it has low miles. So I am going to check it out.
The pics I have seen look good but the wheels look hideous.
