So Loner (friend from another board) made the 3hr drive down here on Thursday to install his turbo, got here about noon and drove home this morning about the same time (Sat).

It was a long 2 days, we didn't go to sleep until 2am Fri, got up at 8 and went right back at it. Pulled an all-nighter and it was running shortly after dawn.

Here's the startup...

Here's the first and second test drive after we overcame a couple of snags (coupler never tightened, and a coupler blew off)...

We used the prototype v6 FWD turbo headers I build for him a couple of months ago and fabbed everything else while the car was here.

He didn't hesitate to make the 3hr drive home after and only had a few minor details to work out.

Here are some pics how we did it...

This install built my confidence a little. Never thought all those pipes could get stuffed in that bay. Also has a functional EGR, huge GN I/C, and made a side exit exhaust the same night. Not like working on a RWD, that's for sure.

this has really motivated me to get the new motor finished and boosted.

the messed up part on the cobra i did is that it still had the blower bracket on it. i couldnt bring the pipe up next to the smog eliminator like i wanted to so i had to merge it and bring it up through the fender apron on the outside of the frame rail. it came out nicely though

You have a TC on your LX? Quite a few yrs ago a friend and I build an 86 LX. We put a SBC 355 and th400 trans in it and it ran 11.8x on the motor and 10.3x on the juice (best was 10.33). We used the stock rear even and he painted it Chevy orange and nick-named it the "MouseStang". Good times back then. Wish I was into charging motors back then.

Well after breaking three trannies before we could get numbers, here's a vid...

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/More-Corsica-fun_164663.htm

The best time at 6psi has been 13.6@105mph.

New injectors are going on, along with a manifold ported for a 65mm TB, and the boost is getting turned up.

Not anymore Wink

This is a customer's car, not mine. The 3.1 detonated on me 2x, and is now being replaced with a 3.4/3500 (stupid rev limiter, lol). I'm using some heads from a 2004 Malibu/G6 with the heart shaped chambers and canted valves - actually very similar to the car i posted about. This time I'm not taking chances with an FMU or other mechanical tuning, but am going to try out the $59 code.

If he's running mid 13's in a FWD car @ 6psi, the Firebird will only do better Grin

BTW : How's it going Dave?

Cool, so I have an in?  Cheers! It would be worth the drive to check out your place and perhaps dyno a Firebird!?.

We are just starting here, we opened for business in July last year and things are starting to rock. We have CNC's, hit me up of you need anything Wink Been doing some cams, turbos and lots of headwork.

Here's the new motor going in the Bird...

http://s158.photobucket.com/albums/t87/forcedfirebird/Hybrid%20Build/

Not getting boost just yet, seeing if I can drag 300hp out of the little monster first w/11.5:1 compression, big cam, making my own headers, lots of porting hrs etc.

If I get it, sure thing.  Granted, you have to chip in on the dyno time.  Mostly due to that thing being expensive as a motherfucker and I have to make my money back somehow. :p

By time the smoke clears, it'll be close to $40k.

I hear you. Our CNC mill can handle 20"x13"x18", the lathe can take up to 21" diameter 36" long, they were in that neighborhood and that's just the CNC's O.O. We also have toolmaking grinders, manual machines, 5 drill presses, than all the small and large belt sanders etc. We spent about 100k since last july.

Of course I'll chip in Grin I would even be willing to barter if you need machine work.

Thanks Grin

It's got more, but the car won't hook abouve 9psi. The night of the time slip was the 1st time the car saw sub-2sec 60's. Perhaps it needs to be converted to RWD.  Cool

Here's a video of the run...

congrats on the 12 second run.   Two Thumbs Up!

Try stiffening the rear suspension up so it doesn't drop down on the launch and throw some full slicks up front.

Nice work.  The only thing I saw that concerns me a little is the position of the turbo.  I thought 15 degrees off horizontal was the max.  Yours looks like 30 degrees at least.  Oil in the exhaust and oil drain issues may be the result.  In addition the compressor wheel is just waiting to eat somthing that falls near it.

The car is actuall mine but he's the builder of my turbo setup.

It has seen one 1.9 60' the same night as the slip posted but only pulled a 13.0 @ 105. The car had sat for roughly 2 months prior to this night so I had a few issues all night that have since been taken care of.

Total invested in the car is more then I care to think about so I stopped keeping track of it.

It should be going on within the next couple weeks for some better times. Put a 12psi spring in the other day Oohyah! Still not what I want but its better then 6psi and my current boost controller is garbage. Im sure Forced_Firebird will keep everyone updated since Ill probably forget
