Starting my build on my 89 mustang. Going with a ponydown hotside with the 3" DP, making the cold side and running a T72 Turbonetics. Car has a stock rebuilt 302 with world seniors, f303, and a performer with all the other bolt ons. Used to run a S trim but saw the light! Anyways, I know its going to be hard/impossible to match the sound of the car without a turbo but I really would like to get as close as possible. The exhaust was bbk shorties, mac o/r X, mac catback all 2 1/2". Ive been searching around the forum and I cant seem to find any exhaust videos without them being at the track with a open headers car right next to it. I know Iam not a fan of the straight through mufflers on a NA or blower car, unless its really serious of course but Iam trying to figure out if the sound would be better on a turbo car. Basicly I am trying to figure out if a full on muffler such as a hooker maxflow is right for me, or if bullets would work/sound better. Planning on running a electric 3" cutout also. Here is a video of the car before I took the blower off to compare sound: http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h293/bentley429/?action=view¤t=20070309235904.flvIn car: http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h293/bentley429/?action=view¤t=20070310001532.flvThanks, great site here thats for sure. Will be posting in the builds boards as soon as the hot side comes in, cant wait! PS I know chambered mufflers are junk for a turbo car

I went with the Ultra Flow Welded with an X pipe after the incon manifolds. I am running a 347 and it is much louder than I had wanted. You may like them.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to look into those. Would you say they are about as loud as bullets?

ultra flows should be a little quiter than a bullet, if your really looking to quite it down then you could always run a bullet in front of the ultra flow muffler, I have seen this done on a few turbo cars and it sounds pretty quite

Your best bet is probably ultraflows or bullets. My buddy has a notch with long tubes with 3 inch macs full exhaust and they are loud as hell. I run dual 3 inch ultraflow with tailpipes and its pretty mellow at idle but you can hear it when you get on it. No muffler with a turbo will sound anything like your mac exhaust. Even if you run a chamber muffler with a turbo it will actually be quieter than a straight through muffler.

here is a vid of mine, it is a 351w h/c/i with a s400 turbo, 3 1/2" downpipe split to dual 3" dynomax ultraflows through 3" tails. It is a potential 9 second car and no one would ever expect it. http://s235.photobucket.com/albums/ee242/turbocapri/?action=view¤t=000_0850.flv

86capri are you must be millhouse on stangnet. Really do love the sound of the 93 cobra, basicly what iam looking for. Sounds like straight pipe or just bullets will do it for me! Keep the videos coming if you have them though.

I just have 2.5in pipe from the turbos to the rear axle with no mufflers and its slightly raspy but alot quieter than most flowtrasher equipped cars around here. i think a race bullet would take out some of the rasp. if you want the original sound back then your probably going to have to put an h-pipe and turbo mufflers.

+1, mine exited right out of the H-pipe and just revving it in neutral it sounded o.k. (turbos spinning and shit), but driving it around it was too much.
