I made it to the track again and back home.  The 2 step definately helped.  The car picked up almost 2 tenths, but no mph.  It ran a best of 7.17 at 98 with a couple 7.20's and a 7.23.  It is kind of odd that adding timing slows the car down w/o detonation.  It ran the 17 with 23 degrees and slowed down to a 23 and lost 1.5 mph with 25 degrees.  There was no sign of detonation on the plugs.  The track is not known for hooking and most were complaining about traction.  I may have to try Huntsville.  I think next trip I will take a little more out and see what happens.

I still need to get the fuel curve a little flatter.  It goes from high 11's at the hit and after gear changes to high 12's just before a shift.  I blocked the HSAB's and it did not seem to help.  I am thinking of trying vent tube extensions to help with that.

Maybe it picked up MPH with 23 deg. because its lean on top. SO when u add timing it leans it out even more? MAybe

I got some 275/50r15 M/T Drag Radials to replace my 26x8.5 slicks.  That means no more tires in the back seat on the trip to the track.  It will be nice to leave the jack at home too.  I will have room for a box fan and small generator to help cool the motor after I get to the track.  It does not run hot, but 1hr+ of driving = major heat soak.  I would like to get it into the 6's at 10psi, then turn it up a little.

Thanks, those are 275/60.  I went with 50's because I was afraid of it needing a gear change.  It still looks OK, but not quite as mean.

I got the carb straight, I think.  The proform vent tubes are cut almost 90* at the top.  CW25 suggested putting a good slash cut and facing them towards the inlet on the hat.  Now it stays 11.4 to 11.6 at all RPMs under boost!  I wish I had a boost controller now.

Thanks guys!  I hate putting on and taking off Weld Wheels , so I decided to leave them on.  Anyone need some 03 MachI wheels?

Cooler weather was kind to my car.  It went a 7.06 at 98.  The track went away towards the end.  It did run over 100mph tonight, but it spun for about 50' on run.  I had a new best turbo 60' of 1.62.  The old best was 1.67  All passes were on 93 octane and only a tire pressure change after the drive to the track.  I am going to try to get a Lowe's cold air duct to the turbo instead of the air filter and see what that does.

Well the car went OK last summer, but I felt the MPT-70 was holding me back.  I got it to run 6.90s on 11psi, http://videos.streetfire.net/video/69410045_177035.htm  but when I took it to the 1/4 it only ran 11.06.  I thought it would get into the 10s for sure.  It just seemed to run out of steam the second 1/8.  It would have been easier to use a T-76GTS, but if I wanted easier I would have bought a Fox body. Grin  I was still going to redo the DP and crossover if I stayed T4 so I decided while I am at it I would go big, physically anyway.  There are not a lot of choices of where to mount an S400 in a classic, probably 2 and they are mirror image.  Other than a cage the car will be the same.  I have not got a lot done yet.  Making the 1.5" long 3.5" diameter piece to connect the old crossover to the new flange was no fun.  Going from oval to rectangle clocked about 30* different in less than 2" is tough.  The metal does not want to bend like that.  Here is a couple pics of what I have done so far.

I cut off the the cross over where the 2 sides went together and will use it.

The flange I bought did not line up well with the turbine housing.

So I welded it smaller and port matched it.  I drilled 2 small holes for alignment pins during assembly.

The alternator found a new home to make room for the DP.

The 5" DP will come just past the WP and 90 down, split into two 3" and run one down each side of the motor, then reduce to the current 2.5" exhaust to the rear bumper.

One more.  I will have to swicth sides with the valve covers.  The bung is directly under the charge pipe.  I am glad I did not make the hoses for the catch can yet.

You are going to keep the banks undivided then right ?

How long did you sit in front of the car until you thought you had it figured out, then change it ? lol  Doh!

I am not keeping the banks divided.  I did not want to grind on the turbine housing to smooth the entry incase I ever want to sell it.  A potential buyer might want to keep the banks divided.  I have spent a lot of time looking at everything under the hood.  I was never real happy with the whole thing after the merge and have been planning something different.  I have spent a lot of time on here stealing ideas.  I wanted the turbo to be straight across, but there is no room.  It might have been better on the passenger side, but I already had a hole in the inner fender and a crossover set up for the drivers side.  The drivers side header might have been a problem with it kicked out.

I got  the turbo support done today.  I hope it is strong enough.  It seems pretty sturdy.  I will trim some off of the head mount that isn't needed.  Tomorrow is waste gate day.  The Tial 38mm is going back on.  I have seen 2 people uning the same gate.  One worked great and the other could not control the boost.  I will see if it works on mine.  I will have to buy some tubing unless I can scrounge some up in the left over pile from the initial build.  If I cant get the WG mounted I'll start on the DP.

I tacked nuts on the back to bolt the support up.

And the support.

Installed.

Charge tube in place.

One more.

Brian,

Very nice! I love the fact that you have been doing this all on your own. I'm pretty much doing the same thing and trying to do a much as I can since Im pretty new to welding myself. I'm getting better. For some reason it seems fun. The only part that is not fun is the "sun burn" my arms get from welding in a t-shirt.   Doh!  My hat is off to you and the turbo mount you made is top notch. I might steal a few ideas from you also. Im at the mounting turbo stage myself.

Take care,
Randy
