turbo monte ss (budget build)
« on: April 21, 2008, 05:23:48 PM »

finally started on the turbo build up i've been working on for 2 years.  here's how it was last year.

here is a recent pic, this is the start of my headers.  I also got rid of the factory radiator support and moved the radiator forward about 3-4 inches.

the motor that's in there now is a 11.5:1 408 w/nitrous,  it is going to be replaced with a pretty much stock 355 with a holset hx55 (atleast that's what I think it is)
tell me what you think.

I think it's an hx55  it says 22cm on the exhaust inlet and 77 on the compressor housing,  I'm not sure what that means.  If anyone can tell from the pics I would appreciate any information.

turbo is mounted and cross over pipe is done.  I need to figure out where to mount the wastegate.  The down pipe is just sitting in there, not welded.

W/g should go right where the two pipes come together at the turbo.

Nice looking build!

it does appear to be the HX55, should have a 67mm inducer on the compressor, 72mm exducer on the turbine(I have one also). Unfortunately, mine is a HX55W, thus an internal wastegate housing I'd rather not have.

Nice looking build. I'm interested to see/hear how it turns out with the holset.

little bit of progress,  got the waste gate mounted.  Next is getting the downpipe figured out so I can run the wastegate pipe into it.

Nice car!  Montes make bad ass drag cars.

I wonder how well that WG will work with the exhaust flow having to make a sharp 135 degree turn?  It doesn't look like you had much choice using a single WG feed pipe, as the portion after the merge is very short.  It may have been better to merge two separate wg feed tubes together, 1 coming from the pass. header, and the other coming from the crossover (and at much shallower angles).  It all depends on how much flow you need to bypass, though.  If not very much, it might work fine.  Is that paint or coating?

Keep the pics coming!

thanks!
I had wanted to merge two pipes for the wastegate I just didn't have enough material.  The white stuff is ceramic coating, I plan on painting it all black and wrapping it.  I just didn't wan to leave it bare metal.
