taking my 8.8 back apart to narrow it a lil more and get a new carrier, axles, etc the car should make around 700 with the 377 and a small shot, but will be going with a small frame 88 over the winter,so kinda want to get the rear end all done to handle the increase of power later,.its a six speed car, weighs around 3200 and was thinking of going with a auburn pro series and either moser or strange 31 spline axles..will they be strong enough? i think moser lists their 31 splines to handle 7000 lb tq? anyway,i know this has been hashed before, but wanted to ask anyway..car is 98% street driven with a few 1/4 mile testing runs, and then maybe true street events..thanks in advance for any help,

Put 9 inch ends on it and get a full strange set up.
I have not been impressed in moser stuff the last few years. I have seen a lot of broken axles or twisted really bad. It can happen to any stuff, just some input.

Same think happened to Trace Meyers 35 spline's that Moser said he had to have, on the 5th pass, but he only busted one axle and did not hit the wall.
Man that sucks.

thanks for the input guys, i allready have the 9" ends, that was a given, i never trusted c clips,
seems like most say to go with a spool, but i don't want to use one of those with the amount of street driving i will be doing..i was not aware that auburn made a 33 spline carrier..anyone hear anything about those?, or a better 33 spline carrier? thanks!

I street drive all the time. Don't notice the spool one bit. I used to have a 31 spline truck carrier in before the spool and I honestly can't tell the difference. I would not worry at all about a spool on the street (unless driving in rain/snow).

Yep, that's what I have in my car. It's made by Eaton, but Strange sells it under their name. It has carbon clutches in it and seems to be working great so far for me with both street driving and at the track with the slicks. If you're going to be running around on 15" wheels, then the spool probably won't bother you. If you're going to have 17" or 18" wheels on it, then I HIGHLY recommend getting the diff for it. I tried a spool in my car, with my 17s on it, and absolutely hated it. Since there is practically no sidewall to absorb the twisting when going around corners, the car will chatter the inside tire like crazy, shaking the whole car. It honestly took a lot of the fun out of driving my car, so I broke down, spent the dough on the diff, and I'm very happy that I did. Here are some pictures of the diff.

Yeah, that part sucks. For me, it was honestly worth the money over the spool though. I got mine for less than $500 from these guys. http://autofabcart.net/ I talked with this guy ( JoshKing@autofabracecars.com) and told him that I got his info from corral.net. I'm not sure if I got a discount because of that or not, but their price was by far the lowest I found.

I would also look at Mark Williams Masterline series, 35 spline axles spool and 9" ends. I just grenaded my Eaton diff. last week. I will be 9" this winter but just put a spool in it last night to get me by the rest of the year. Haven't driven it yet.

I got the detroit tru-trac and it is a nice piece, no noise and can handle at least 725 RWHP without flinching.

XJHEAD with your car weighing 4050! i'm sure that made a big difference, man that car is heavy and withalot of hp going by your sig...i'm definitely going with strange axles, who has the best price on them? with the 9" ends, i'm just kinda on the fence about what diff to use now,i plan on running 18's on the car later, its definitely a street car,and with the way it rains over here lately,i'd hate to get caught out in the rain with a spool..anyone else have any good luck with the auburn pro 33 carrier?

I bought their 31 spline kit 4-5 years ago. I knew the Eaton was the weak point, but figured I had it and would run it until it broke. Made 30 runs with it at the track and I don't know how many hits on the street with it. I think I broke it last week on the street. I was giving somebody a ride that has never been in a car with more than 500 hp. I have never seen anybody grab the roll bar so fast before.. http://www.markwilliams.com/axleMasterline.aspx?CategoryID=134 ML-400 MasterLine Street / Strip Axles MasterLine forged steel axles are the perfect answer for the thrifty car owner More Info $388.00
