Nitrous takes out F-Body
« on: October 14, 2008, 04:28:48 PM »

A bottle blew up sitting in my buddy’s driveway.

Thanks god no one was driving it!

This F-Body “was” a mint car before this.

DAMN... that sucks big time!!! How did it happen? Did he forget to turn off the bottle warmer?
That is why it's a good idea to install pressure relief valves on this things.

X2, I've even had a bottle blow down once on me, with those pop-off valves, they sure drop that bottle fast. Now i guess we all see what happens when they are not in place or do not work.

I think he meant they look like street tires that are completely bald. That was something I noticed also maybe it was better the bottle blew in the driveway instead of a tire on the street. Still sucks though.  Sad

Did the explosion blow open the gas door and unscrew the gascap as well?  Where was the bottle mounted in the car?

Another benefit of turbos. They don't empty and they do NOT explode. Two Thumbs Up! A useful advice from Thejackstandforums Two Thumbs Up!

The bottle is there. Problem is, it's all over the car. In all the rear hatch pics you can see the top and middle of the bottle all opened up and on the drivers seat is the bottom. Doubt you'll see more cause these pieces fly AWAY. Two Thumbs Up!

I had one pop in the back of a camaro sitting in the shade under a tree.  It did have like 14lbs in a 10lb bottle, and I forgot to roll the windows down.  It didn't hurt anything though, it was just empty when I came back to drive the car.

Thats insane.  Im guessing there was no pop off valve installed?  Ive seen the valves go early, but never not release when needed.

I had mine in the trunk where the spare tire went. It sat in the southern south carolina heat 100 plus weather especially with being trapped inside the car and no problems like that. I didn't have a blow down tube installed either.
