I was thinking of another C4 with gearvendors but i only want 4th gear for overdrive for highway use and want it to lock as well hence why im looking for an AOD lock up.
Dont want to be crusin on a highway for a long drive with a big 4000rpm converter as it will start to burn the converter out.
Seems like Lentech are the leaders in AOD building
I want something pretty high end as i believe a gearbox makes or breaks the car.
Just a run down of my old C4 and id want something like that with an AOD
Billet imput sharft Raybestos bands + cluthes 5 cluth top 6 pinion planetory gears Heavy Duty drive shell + pinion Full rollerised gearset assembly Reverse pattern valve body Alloy cast pan Billet servo piston + cover
This same box in another car went 8.2 in a 3100lbs blown ford and my old box was awsome hence i want good gear in an AOD.

How do AOD & 4R70W shift into OD and how do they lock up once in OD???
Is it basically just shifting like going from 1st to 2nd gear??? and does it automatically lock up the converter once its gone into OD??? or lock up converter is engaged with a switch???

I would expect them to be more expensive now, mine was purchased approx. 10 years ago.

I am running a lentech strip terminator in my car, with a reverse manual and trans brake with overdrive. Have made quite a few low 9 second passes and hopefully an 8 before the year is over. The fluid looks like i just put it in there. The only thing i recommend is getting a big trans cooler, because they can make some heat! Mine set me back about $4000 with all the bells and whistles.

So u deffinatly have reverse manual valve body??? and is it a Lentech valve body???
Ive been emailing Len and he said he does not have a reverse manual valve body and its not possible???
Ive had someone on here offer me a Lentech with reverse manual valve body which i frind very strange???
From my understanding reverse manual is like this with AOD, AODE & 4R70W trans???
P R N 1 2 3 OD
Thats how my old C4 was obviously without OD

I run a Lentech Strip Term w/brake and UCC converter. Standard shift pattern with a stock Fox AOD shifter. Never any drama with the stock shifter, but seems many don't like them.

Sorry man, mine is standard pattern, not reverse. I use the b&m hammer shifter.

The OD in the Lentech AOD is electronicly activated by a delete solenoid. You shift into 3rd and then when you want OD, you push the solenoid switch which allows the OD to engage. The OD is for cruising/mileage only, not rated for WOT on a turbo engine. Cheers.

So is it a basic soleniod setup???
If i were to go AODE or 4R70W is it the same thing or do i need a computer to run it???
Ive read that with an AOD & 4R70W there are 2 switches, 1 for locking converter and other for OD, so i assume there just a soleniod setup like and AOD as well???

The aode/4r70w have to have a computer to run them, but they are awesome units...do a search on bamann engineering. they offer a nice controller which i run in my car. we are getting ready to throw 800+ at my 4r70w...

Thomaswpt is correct. I just use a rocker switch in my car that is lighted. The older lentech's you used to have to apply 12v to the solenoid to keep them out of overdrive, but the new ones you do not have to do that. Get a deep pan for it and you are good to go.

Seems like the AOD is a simpler setup as it dosent have computer and all but it seems the AODE & 4R70W is a better and stronger box so may be worth it to go AODE & 4R70W.

How much power are you looking to make? A strip terminator aod is rated to 1500hp. I don't think the aode and 4r70w are rated any higher tan that. Mind you, mine is a non lock up unit, you can only get the lock ups to a certain hp level.

I want a AOD/AODE or 4R70W to be lock up
At this stage if i still go NA ill be making 550hp at the flywheel but there is the possiblity going single turbo setup so will be making at least another 150hp more at the flywheel.
So like with by previous C4 transmission i go all out with it and dont worry about it again as i know it will take the punishment.
I was told that AOD lock up in 3rd gear then u switch to OD and still locked, so i assume that 3rd gear can take abit of punishment when locked up???
Im purely going to use lock up OD for highway use.

The lockup input shaft is a weak link. That's why any of the higher HP AOD's are non lockup. They use a 1 piece input shaft.
You should really go over to clickclickracing.com There is a LOT of AOD info there as well as guys that build them. Read and you will find all the answers you are looking for.

As soon as I first installed my turbo kit and went down the road it broke the lock up shaft. We went home and installed another one and as quick as I hit 3rd it snapped again.I didnt get the one piece shaft but I did order a hardened shaft and it has never broke or twisted (yet). When I needed to restall my convertor I had them go ahead and make it a non- lock up while they was at it so it might live with the new motor.Hopefully the 2 shaft design will hold up,I dont know yet but if starting from scratch I would definately go the 1 pc shaft design.
