I have been talking to one of the 2.3 heavy hitters and he runs a stock block, crank, head and main bolts if possible and runs 8.90 @ 153mph 3100lbs street car with 11.8 compression and 40psi on methanol. He says the stock crank has been in 3 seasons so far! it makes approx 6hp per cu inch
Testchimp Watch out who your talking to, an 8.9 in the quarter on a stock block! I haven't heard anyone doing this. They are good motors, not sure if their that good.

i hear mixed facts about what the 2.3 can do. the general consensus i have found so far indicates a stock block can handle about 700hp, stock rotating assembly about 450-500hp and that you can make up to 1000hp on the ranger 2.5 steel crank. i have also heard(on some dirt track forums) than guys have spun the stock rotating assemblys to 8500 rpm. i have four 2.3 engines at my house and we found bent rods in three of them. they were all basically stock turbo engines.

You hear alot, I've heard 600 on a stock block but not for long. I've spun mine well pass 8000, they spun it to 8000 on the dyno and was still making power, I told them to shut it down at 8, the only thing stock about mine is the crank, nothing else. I can't see the stock rods taking it for too long. The motor is tough, probably one of the toughest, but you do hear alot. I just like playing with mine, but I really think it's playing me, lol. Once you put good after market parts in the block, you 'll start seeing something.

Dave Flanders is supposed to be using stock block and crank but with aluminum rods. He runs 8.90's. Attention to the small details and a lot of luck helps.

Yes i spoke with dave and he runs a stock block and crank with aluminum rods. Like i said before try making 2100hp with a stock block and crank 350 chevy and see how that works LOL! Many guys turn 8500-10,000 rpm with them, it seems like 8500-9,200 is more common. That is the carb you have the link to, i have never seen one that cheap, usually $500.0 and up. I have heard that the carb is set up differently because it's a 390 but is really much larger, it's kinda a lie to run it within the rules of nascar but i'm not sure on that. I think they flow way more than 390 but i would like to flow one just to know.
