Hi! Just getting back around to my project that's been in a holding pattern for the last 6 months, and came across this thread. I'll be watching your progress. Our setups are similar. Congrats on the new addition to the family! Walt (Blownshovel) and I are hoping this will be a good turbo for the 5.0. Mine's in a 1988 Turbocoupe with a Mustang 5.0 and a 4r70w. I made a brace for the Holset that attaches to the block. It isn't totally solid, but will give some added support. Don't be ashamed of your welds, I can't stand to look at my work. LOL As long as it holds up I'll be happy. I'm going to get some more powerful eyeglasses to wear under the welding helmet, cause I just can't see anymore with it on. Anyway, good luck with the project, and I'll pass along anything I can to help in regards to the Holset.

Congratulations on the arrival! My wife and I have an 8 year old boy, and he's got car fever haha - he helps me in the garage all the time. We're discussing putting him in a jr. dragster next year.

v-bands are good although most will say not to run the masters. Look for a straight through design.

Congratulations! 1st off congrats on Baby #2. A wise man once told me the second child isn't like twice the work, it's more like 3 times as much not really joking though. I can give you a more positive spin on the second. In my family, the second child was not twice the work. In fact, the second didn't seem like much more work at all since we were already in "kid mode". For us, the third kid seemed to have a larger impact. I think it has to do with the fact you only have two hands. When things get crazy with two, you can scoop up one and go after the other. When three kids run in different directions, you have to start running the probabilities of catastrophe for each to prioritize who you're going to chase down first. Two might not be so bad depending on the kids and your ability to multi-task. I like your plan of putting them to work in the garage!

For some reason I find that statement highly entertaining.

lol man.. that was pretty damn funny lol, and thanks for the insight as well guys.. i have a few more pics i made the downpipe today i used your idea blown shovel about chppoing off the cast vband and weldong the 3" to it.. i just had to use higher heat so that the cast would reach temperature fast enough to adhere.. installed fits really tight lol.. now to get dirty and do the ypipe and finish the exhaust..

Yeah the factory 45* is a nice piece of metal. Welds real nice. It also allowed you to tweak the angle to what worked in your chassis
