Turboing my 1990 notchback this weekend, have a few questions.
« on: October 27, 2009, 04:06:05 PM »

Hows it going? I am going to turbo my 1990 notchback that has quite a few things done to it so far. Heres a list of mods on it:

302 Bored out to 306
Ported SVO Heads
Ported Upper and Lower Intake
Keith Black Forged Pistons
Lunati Forged Crank/Connecting Rods
Custom Grind Cam
30# Injectors
Smog/A/c Delete
PMP T-5 with built internals
8.8 Rear with 4.10 Gears

I have purchased a turbo kit for it locally bc of a good deal. I am installing it this weekend here is a list of parts that I have:

- Pony Down Performance turbo headers with 1-5/8" primaries and 44mm wastegate flange, T4 flange, all V-band connections on crossover pipe with flex, and 3" downpipe
- MasterPower T-70 Turbo with .68 a/r exhaust housing and V-band housing
- 27"x11"x3" Intercooler with in/out on the same side
- TiAL 44mm Wastegate (red) with 11 pound spring
- TiAL 50mm "Q" Blow off valve (red)
- Hallman Manual Boost Controller
- Walbro 255 LPH external in-line fuel pump
- Intercooler Piping Kit (Black Powdercoated) with silicone couplers and T-bolt clamps
- Three (3) V-band clamps and one mega-clamp for down pipe
- T4 flange turbo gasket

Before I install I have a few questions, does this seem like everything I need to get this done? Also what do you use for tuning? Stock ecu, etc? I plan on running about 8psi because the compression is 10.5:1. Any tips for the install? All information is greatly appreciated. Thanks is advance.

I would def get rid of the 30lb inj for some 42's. If you dont already I would get a boost referenced fuel pressure regulator. The main thing I would worry about would be the high compression.

Also you need to get rid of those 4:10 gears asap. You need some 3:27's. Honestly i would do a piston swap to get your compression down before I did anything. Your building a turbo car not a N/A one.

Its been done plenty of times. Just hold back on the timing and keep it rich.

As far as tuning, can I run this setup on the stock ecu with no issues? Also I was told by a local place (Mustang Magic) that since my motor is all forged I can handle about 6-8psi. Any ideas?

Well, since this turned into a BS attempted FS thread in about 7 posts, I have to say I lol'd pretty good at "Turboing my 1990 notchback this weekend."

P.S. 10.5:1 and boost has been done plenty, search around. How do you think all the turbo 350Z guys start out?
