I got my car running a few weeks ago and within a few miles the regulator on my alternator quit working and the voltage shot up to 18+ volts. I saw the error message on the DFI and I was just trying to drive it a few miles to get back home. It ended up blowing some fuses but nothing else major. A few days later I opened the trunk and found acid all over the place. Maybe 3-4 tablespoons of it. So I pulled the battery and cleaned it with soda. Is there some way I can add water back to this battery? It's sealed but there has to be a way to open up the top. It's an expensive battery so it's worth saving to me.. Or should I just put it back in and let er buck the way it is.

Gel cells are very sensitive to high voltage and I know of no way to add water to the one's I've seen. Run it until it fails and then save some money and buy a conventional battery to replace it.

hmm.. they did mention not to go above 15 volts when charging, too bad there's no way to fix it. I switched back to a 130 3G alternator and drove it today with the odyssey. Maybe dual conventional batterys are the answer when this fails. thanks for your help.

Maybe dual conventional batterys are the answer when this fails. Why? A conventional battery outperforms a gel cell battery all day long. Don't believe these guy's excellent marketing. Gel cells have a higher internal resistance which is the reason they cannot provide or accept as much current. A single conventional battery of the same physical dimensions will be fine.

Does that mean their cranking amp ratings are not accurate? that's the reason I bought it. But I think it's back to the exide for me.
