Team Z ARB install
« on: November 06, 2009, 04:30:50 AM »

I have been trying to find the time during the day to call Dave and ask for some help installing this and I am just not able to call during normal business hours. Can someone tell me where the plates should be welded on the frame? Should it be right up against the edge of the gussets that are there or should the plates for the ARB go over those? I called a long time ago and talked to Dave and he told me how it should go but I never got around to installing it and now I don't remember the conversation. Any help/advice would be much appreciated...pics would be awesome. I have the bar with the oilite bushings in it if that matters. Thanks!

You want it as far forward as you can get it.  Over the gussets as you call it.  Also the bushings are offset on the plate, you when them to the top side.  The ARB needs to be as far forward and as high as you can get it.

Sorry no pictures.

so the tabs that weld to the axle should be on the very top of the axle tubes?

No, you want them on the back side of the axle tube.  You want it so you can lower the axle out of the car and the ARB will not flip forward.

Really? I have always put them so the bushings were on the bottom side of the plates so you can keep the bar's travel in a better position. The other way I would be more worried about them hitting the trunk floor. Smiley

Jake if the suspension is right the car will always seperate or move away from the axel, If there is a issue with it being close to the floor, you can use 3'' links insted of 4 but we always install them bushing up!

Thanks Dave. I guess all the cars I put anything on where street cars and see rearend compression. I know the first one I did years ago hit the trunk floor a few times so I shortened the links( alittel at a time to stop it). Then by doing that the arms were angling down enough at ride height that when dropping the rearend(or jumping railroad tracks Grin Grin) it would over center. I'm just about ready to weld another one of your ARB's under a car this wekend, I will look at it the other way around first. welder

ok, I got the rear back last night. Hopefully will get time to work on this sometime over the weekend. I'll mock the bar up and take some pics to be sure I've got it where it's supposed to be. So I have an idea when the bar is installed all the way forward as far as I can get it should the links be perpendicular to the back of the tubes and pointing down some so that in compression it won't hit the floor? Can someone give me a ballpark on how much clearance I need between the arms and the trunk floor? The car is legal to drive on the street so it will see some compression. Thanks for the help guys.

Here's a couple shots of mine:

I just put mine as high as I could get it to keep it away from the upper CAs. Figure I'll shorten the links to keep it off the floor at bump compression.

Remember there is always more then one way to skin a cat.  I had mine in as described on the street and had no problems. But then again I did not have a lot of shock compression.

ok, I pulled the gas tank out last night and mocked up the bar and took some pics. Does my location look correct? I tacked it into place after I cleaned the area up. Going to put the rear in it and see where the end links end up in relation to the axle tubes. How much room should I try and get between the ARB arms and the floor of the car so that it won't hit on compression?
