ford diesel turbos
« on: November 19, 2009, 04:22:41 PM »

so i went to ford today and did a job shado and i got to help a master tech do some injectors on a truck well the truck had twin turbos on it and i got to thinking and i am pretty sure that they have a small turbo to spool up the larger one i dont think that the larger one would be a smart choice on my next project (bone stock 5.0 with about 12lb of boost) so i was wondering if the smaller turbo of of one is to small or what. and what turbo that i could use if that one does not work what turbo would be a good one that i could use. PS i was looking at this and could not find the single list. http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=4365.0

Do you have any specs on the turbo at all? A/R, trim size, etc I dont know your budget but you can get a new or used masterpower turbo for a good price that will work awesome with your car.

no i have none of that i was thinking about geting a masterpower turbo like the t70 but i dont want to pay 500 really for a turbo.

i was also wondering if i could take a stock 5.0 and boost it and only boost like 3lb for now and keep the stock fuel system or just use 24lb that i can get for cheep

If you don't want to spend 500 for a turbo you need to stop now before its to late. There is a lot more to going turbo than just buying a cheep turbo / fuel systems /  and a lot to follow. Do some research on here first to see what your getting in to.

^^^^^^ What he said.  If $500 on a turbo has you holding back, you could be surprised how much everything else is going to end up costing you.  No offense intended, it's just a pricey hobby.

You will probably have $1000-$1500 just in a fuel system to support that $500 turbo, so the advice above is spot on.

wtf 1000-1500 in fuel alone i was planing on only spending 1-2000 on the hole car with most of everything beeing used and from ebay yes i know most of you dont like the stuff off of ebay.oh and he only thing that i was going to buy from a biger place is a set of headers from pony down and i am going to try to get thim used. i might buy this intercooler from this one local place that is used for 1000 and they only used it for 6 months on a weekend only car. lets see i was also going to buy a BOV and WG from a my friends dad that took his DIY kit off for a kit that he got built by a local shop he works for now. he told me he want like 120 for both. and i was going to get a set of injectors that a guy i know has that are from a 2003 lightning that he put a biger supercharger on and went to 60lb so i will get the 43lb i think they are for a nother 150. i will buy a new fuel pump from summit or something like that and it will be a 255. i know that there is still more that i will need that i just cant think of.

Here is a link to my build. Im on a pretty tight budget being that Im in college. But your still going to need to drop some money in the car. If you plan on only running 3lbs then there is no point. Go put a 100 shot on it and be done. Im still spending quite a bit of money and Im going the cheap route compaired to some one here. You will need min:

255 fuel pump
42lb inj
pipe for cold side & downpipe
intercooler
bov & wastegate
wideband & boost gauge (min)
turbo
silicon couplers & tbolt clamps (not cheap)
oil return and feed
vacum line ect.
boost referenced fuel pressure regulator

Some thing to think about before you jump into your project.
