I have a 1994 7.3 IDI diesel that is NON powerstroke. It has a turbo on it but it doesnt spool fast enough and top out around 10psi. Also I am having problems with high EGT's. Im going to try using 2 turbos instead of one to see if I can get a quicker response from them and maybe get into boost faster. The stock turbo is a t4 based turbo with an turbine A/R of 1.10. I was wondering if I moved doen to 2 T3/T4 turbos with turbine A/R .42 if this may help me? Im not sure what to do. A powerstroke turbo is to big and wont spool properly if any at all. This diesel takes smaller turbos to be effective but I was thinking maybe two of them would help the exhaust to flow more yet spool better and respond quicker. Thoughts?

You may want to try the diesel section, maybe talk to some of the guys who have the older for 7.3 diesels that did not come with turbos who have turbocharged them. Also if you can dig up any more info on this motor it may help. A sure thing for quicker spool would be a smaller turbo...

Yeah I was thinking moving to a t3/t4 from the t4 may help. I found some smaller ones and I need almost instant boost. I just dont want to go so small that EGT's become a problem. What I really need is a tiny turbine side with a massive compressor side.

You may try a PSD turbo, I realize you don't want to but at the same time it sounds like your turbine may be choking things off. What are you using for exhaust? Do you have the pump cranked up on it or bigger injectors? From my understanding of diesels You can run a ton of fuel but if the air isn't there to burn it you're going to end up with issues. It may be symptoms of something wrong as well. What turbocharger are you using now? A 6.5L turbocharger may be what you're looking for, either that or a later model (97-02.5 PSD) with a smallish turbine housing and a waste gate.

I have a DPS 2 stage injection pump and G codes. The motor runs great. The problem is the turbo just doent spool fast enough. The turbo Im runnging is a garret P/N 445074-9010 I am running a 4" pipe.

I have a question about compressors. Would a smaller compressor with a smaller A/R spool faster that a bigger compressor with a bigger A/R? If the exhaust turbine and housing was the same on both units? Still learning here.....

Doubt it. I would change the turbine first. Is there an A/R on it? I can find a few things about this turbo it looks to be roughly the same size as a Dodge Cummins turbo, but if it's a diesel and non wastegated it's probably got a very large turbine housing. I would also strongly advise checking for leaks as well, depending on the A/R. Are you sure that the "9010" part of the PN is right? I can't find any info on that particular submodel. Depending on the turbine wheel diameter it may be easy or not so easy to find a replacement turbine housing. Any of the 6.5L turbos would have a similar compressor dimensionally but would have a lot smaller turbine too.

Just last week I installed a used ats kit on a similar truck for a customer. I didn't even look at any numbers nut the turbo looked tiny maybe a t 3 . It spooled very slow and u had to try to reach 8 pounds after doing some research I found that these engines don't like anything over 10 psi because the compression is to high
