Sorry no real progress pics yet, but they will come soon!!!! This will be the third turbo car I've built.. Both of the others have been race cars, but this one will be my pavement pounder... I'm actually selling my 2007 procharged C6 Corvette to build this thing! I've had the Charger for about 5 years now, and it really is a basket case.. It's got some rust issues, and that will all be dealt with. It's a 440, and I plan on running twin 70's on it, and fuel inject it with a Big Stuff 3... It's what I have on the other car, so it's what I know... I really want it to be a 1000-1200 RWHP street car. I'm not to familiar with the mopar engines though.. What kind of power will stock ported re-worked heads support? If I put good hard parts in the engine, what kinda power will the factory block support? Give me some pointers, and the basic mopar knowledge that I need to know before delving off into this shit! Here's a few pics of the car.... A guy is picking up my C6 on Wednesday, and the charger rolls into the garage.. I'll post pics of the header construction when I get started.

blocks strength depends on year. later the better. 400 b series blocks tend to be stronger. most have never pushed the envelope of the 440 blocks. some have been in the 8's with a stock block others say nothing over 700hp. thats why i chose not to use a mopar engine. your better off getting the new gen hemi and putting a good rotating assembly and getting that power as they will hold up just fine in that power department. cams are not cheap and neither is the valve train. so expect to spend some money on anything mopar. you'll also see most guys with any kind of power and a mopar have aftermarket blocks. good luck im excited to see this get built

I would definately run a 400 block. I ran one with aluminum caps, partial fill with a small nitrous shot. Made about 720 on motor, 900 on spray. Never had any problems.

X eleventy billion on the 400. NigelTufnel did put 850 RWHP down with a stroked RB though. Engine-bay dimensions-wise, the 400 block will net you a motor that is an inch narrower and 1/2" shorter (extra room is good). You can sell the RB block for good cash to some turd burglar who needs one for his numbers-matching show poodle, too. Your other builds are sweet as hell, so this should be pretty fuckin' awesome!! I wouldn't even bother with the stock heads, but not because they can't support power. For as cheaply as you can toss Edelbrocks on, you stand to gain blind (heli-coiled) exhaust bolt holes (this is a god-send, especially in crazy header turbo land), no heat riser passage to dick with (annoying), no cracking between seats, you can fix them if something goes wrong, besides better flow and less weight, hahaha. See? I just spent $1500 for you. I would: save the crank (if it's forged), buzz it down to get into a 400 and have yourself a killer 451 (even though you can obliterate tank treads with 400" and boost on the street....it's gonna be a heavy car). And if I had my car together, this is exactly what you'd find underneath, but I don't, so.....

well they start around 8-9k for a short block, so you know. smre gives a good discount for ttf members. also its the same price for a hemi as it is a wedge, just cuz its a fucking mopar so if you want to go hemi you might aswell do it

That's not good advice - making the rest of the longblock is what puts the hemi into the retarded price stratosphere.

im just saying if hes going to be spending 10 grand on a short block and would prefer a hemi. nows the time to start buying for it as it will only get way out of touch in prices anyways. and you can get a complete topend from mopar for about 4500 including all the nessessary hardware, but the cam itself. thats including the 1000 dollar valve covers , and rocker shafts, stands, etc...

I'm not real sure on a great place to get a big block short block. www.manciniracing.com is a mopar performance dealer and they usually have a bunch of left over chrysler engenering short blocks. It might be a decent place to start looking. Good luck! Jake

Since a damn short block is so expensive, I've decided to go a different route.... It's still gonna be twin turbo!

LOL looks good but if you thought a built V8 mopar was expencive to build you just wait. Dude, you can buy a stock viper drivetrain, COMPLETE with transmission, computer, powersteering pump, A/C compressor, injectors, EVERYTHING out of a wrecked viper a lot cheaper than you think! I think I'm going to run small turbo's on the stock engine to get it going. I may actually get the car going first with the stock V-10, and then start on the turbo kit. I'm looking at a Gen2 V-10 which is a 488 CID engine, and is 450 hp from the factory. I'm pretty excited about using the v-10.. LOL

I was more refering to the 1200RWHP version not the inital cost of the engine. I do consider the V-10 to be a VERY cool project.

I do a lot of work on TT vipers. If you have questions just PM me. The gen II engines that you want are 97-99 as they have factory forged pistons. They can support over 1000hp stock. The 00-02 engines had hyper pistons and can only support about 700hp as the top ringland is very high. Michael

LOL looks good but if you thought a built V8 mopar was expencive to build you just wait. I know what you mean! And don't forget that once you get started on projects like this, normally one thing leads to another and before you realize, you're in a lot deeper than you first anticipated on (I am anyway). But nice idea dropping the V10 in.

You read my mind. I was JUST considering the exact same, Gen 2 Viper motor and trans combo, since they are a giant bargain in the Mopar world as far as im concerned.

Just for the record, If you are building a new MOPAR longblock a HEMI is only 2-3k more than a wedge. Sure 2-3k is alot but not when you are looking at 20k intake to pan & the HEMI is worth 10k on the resale alone if you ever decide to sell the car. Now on to the current topic... Let me know how that v-10 fits in the engine bay, I am working on a 69 Charger myself & I can't decide what powertrain to go with. I have considered just about everything: gen2 hemi, gen 2 viper, duramax diesel, LSX... you name it. The thing I was afraid of with the v-10 was being able to fit the motor along with a big single turbo...think PT106 or so. Good Luck with your project.
