i may be able to get my hands on a hx40. is this a decent sized turbo for a 350? or is it too small. not looking to run alot of boost maybe 10lbs and id like to spool around or before 3000 rpm
thanks and if this question has been asked before sorry but i have slowass dialup search doesnt work well lol

How many blades on the compressor wheel? Search for threads under my name, have one with maps for 3 variants of the hx40. But the map i have for the 8 blade is for a 58mm inducer, i actually have an 8 blade with a 60mm inducer im putting on my 302

they will all work i know a number of people with hx35 on sbc that run real good.
if you can get it do it. most people on this sit will just recomend $1000 and $2000 sets of heads lol

lol, yeah, people's definitions of things vary pretty greatly. also, good luck finding one with a t4 turbine housing. mine was a divided t3, and I got lucky on the dsm forums and traded even with a guy that had a t4 that he was gonna put on his eclipse. so he was looking for a t3, i was looking for a t4. and where did sets of heads come in? i will agree that most recommendations I see are for brand new turbos, but you are gambling anytime you buy a used one. So if you are comfortable taking that gamble and maybe putting seals or something in a used turbo, save the money imo

302f150 did you mean your hx40 had a t3 flange or a hx35?? i want a t4 flange seems the hx 35 would be too small for a single turbo setup on 350 cubic inches. but i may be wrong im new to all this turbo stuff lol

I put a T4 flange H1E on the pulling tractor and at the time I was thinking that it would work pretty good on a mild small block .

Define real good.
 made more power then before the turbo. think from 76-95 350 only had 160-200hp and max rpm on the later years went to 5k. you dont think a hx40 on 10 lbs on one of these motors isnt capable of making more power ? would be a sweet and fun vehicle to drive ?

i may be able to get my hands on a hx40. is this a decent sized turbo for a 350? or is it too small would probably be too small on a strip car but if its a street car it should be fine. The compressor map I have is pretty similar to a 62-1 which is a little limited on a 302 let alone something with 48 more inches.

the hx40's depending on which one you have flow 60-69 lbs/min (500hp+capable). not to mention there practically bullet prof

its my first turbo biuld and i dont wanna end up with something i cant handle. 500-600 hp would make me quite happy  itll see some track time im sure but not a everyweek thing. and eventually ill get a biult motor and a much larger turbo but small for now mould be fine. it gonna be a hell of a learning curve tuning it. plan is a self modded blowthru carb becuase im too poor for fuel injection and a laptop lol

i bought an hx40w, that had an 18cm^2 divided inlet t3 turbine housing on it from the factory off of an 8.3 cummins turbo diesel. also has a 60mm 8 blade compressor, sort of a bastard i guess

It'll run on a 383ci so don't worry about if it'll work on a 350. Mine had a 22cm housing and 60mm compressor. Spooled instantly. Scared the shit out of me and was WAY faster than normally aspirated @ just 11psi. However, is it IDEAL for a 350 or 383? Probably not. Exhaust temperatures were very high (no figures but it burned the paint off my hood). Back pressure was probably very high and the compressor was probably working way off ideal efficiency. However, if you can live with less than ideal it will put a huge smile on your face. You'll just end up like me getting a taste for power and then forever upgrading. I'm fitting a T6 next.

ill eventually upgrade to a larger turbo im sure. but i gotta learn to tune the car first. thats gonna be fun part  lol. hopefully by the end of winter i can get the headers fabbed up im still deciding on how to do that. Anyone know of a set of sbc turbo heards that will fit a G body?? (malibu monte carlo cutlass regal elcamino) ive seen the cheapo xs power twin and single setup but the single setup look like junk but with some bracing the twin headers look easy enuff to modify and merge to a single setup with a crossover. any thoughts???

For a stock emissions era engine this will work fairly well. The more HP mods you do to your engine (cam, heads etc) the less close this one will match. If you look at the old Accell kits from back in the day this is probably a higher flow turbo than those were. For something like an LT1 or Vortec 350 this could be stretching your luck but it would likely still work. As said back pressure is going to be a likely issue. Based on the HX40 maps I've seen in the past I bet she'll get you to 10-12 PSI on a stock to stockish 350 engine without running out of steam though.

well the engine is a 90s 350 crate motor. previuos owner said a small amount of porting was done on the heads, i ran the numbers on them they are the heads that came on the 300 hp crate engines, its got a performer style intake which will prolly be changed to a rpm air gap. 1.6 roller rockers and a small cam of unknown size, im thinkin my comp ratio is aroun 10.1 prolly a lil lower. im thinkin im in the clear for this HX40 though. exhaust temps do worry me but there are ways to deal with underhood temps. and the paint aint worth .02 anyway so aint worried there bout it burnig off the hood will stay off till it gets tuned otherwise ill wear the damn latch out lol

They should worry you alittle. To high of egt/backpressure can cook valves/headgaskets. Just an FYI

everyone here is just going to try to talk you out of it. they all want you to run a $5000 set up Doubt it. I had an $80 H1E I bought used off ebay . . . ran it on a 302 and made 505rwhp and 559rwtq. It was past its efficiency but it did work. No one here is saying it won't work but it is a little small to be on a 6000+rpm 350 with decent h/c/i
