Octane booster from what I've read is just glorified paint thinner.
I also found that toulene one on the net somewhere, but it had a disclaimer. The stuff could do more damage then good so that ones a use at your own perill.
Though a booster thats actually safe on stuff would definitely be worth more money.

that torco stuff seems like a good thing to have for emergencies. I'll continue buying 100 octane for $4/gal from a nearby pump.

They did a spot on that torco fuel additive in race pages (NMRA mag) from a year ago. IIRC they tested it on a fox body coupe with a small inch 302 (a 302 or a 306 incher) with an R-trim vortech at 17 psi, non intercooled, 8.5:1 static compression. It made 660 RWHP on 93 octane + torco additive and made the same power as it did on 110 or 112 octane. I have a giant stack of old magazines and shit like that so i'll go digging for it later today and try and get a friend to scan it.

I look at it this way: regardless of alleged 'scientific proof', if you can take a turbo car out with shit gas that would normally detonate at a given psi and it doesn't, it must be doing something worthwhile.

The cost of the drum was $700. It should turn about 2500 gallons of 93 into 116. Oh I bet the EPA just loves you, well if you do get it at least it will knock up the octane and it will make your exhaust valves and seats live a long happy life

Oh well, most race gas is leaded, and nearly all av-gas is leaded.

Probably... I don't think I'm going to need 2500 gallons of race gas!
I don't have it yet though. Theres actually been a bit of red-tape to go through to get it and I've been waiting for a while!
I'll update everyone on it once I've got it though.

risky to get or risky for the motor, TEL will work great for octane reasons and also coats your exhaust valves and cushions the seat. good luck wondering in to a store and buying it though
TEL is a hazardous and there for tightly regulated substance
and no lead substitute won't work the same

If they do, that would be the cheapest way to pick up a few points.
E85 is 85% ethanol, 15% gasoline, and I think the gov subsidises (SP)? it so it's about the price of gasoline.
Like arm said, 10% ethanol will give you over 2 1/2 points, so if you run 12% E85 you'll turn your 91 octane gas into 93.5+.

Originally posted by A.R.M Unless things have changed recently I doubt any octane booster you buy from the store are going to give you any sucessfull results. Usually they raise the octane 'points' i.e. from 92 to 92.3. However there are a couple of formulas for octane boosting with common solvents.
Toulene R+M/2...114 cost...? Ratio's with 92- 10% 94.2 Octane 20% 96.4 Octane 30% 98.6 Octane ...Dont use over 30 percent mix
Xylene R+M/2...117 Cost...$6-8 gal Ratio's with 92- 10% 94.5 Octane 20% 97.0 Octane 30% 99.5 Octane ...Dont use over 30 percent mix
Methyl-tertiary-butyl-ether (MTBE) R+M/2...118 Cost...? Ratio's with 92- 10% 94.6 Octane 20% 97.2 Octane 30% 99.8 Octane ...Dont use over 30 percent mix
Methanol or Ethanol R+M/2...101 Cost...? Ratio's with 92- 10% 94.3 Octane (meth) 10% 94.7 Octane (ethanol) 20% Not recomended, will eat rubber, linings, and aluminum if used in excessive ratio's.
What would you guys do with out DSMers DSM guys? that post has seen every message board many times, and i saw it on a GN?t-type website like 4 years ago

Beau's got a great business going... HIGHLY recommend them! Why not use methanol/water injection?
bingo... a friend of mine tried the Torco, seemed to work but then again, with all additives, you have to keep track of your mixture constantly and you are still burning it just putting around town. I run straight methanol and have never looked back.... I pump 93 into my tank, that's what I burn during normal driving.. then when I stomp it I get the meth. I was told I can run as much boost/timing with it and 93 as I could with straight 104... dunno if that's true or not but right now I am running 11-12psi, 93 octane, 10.1:1 compression. Just can't beat the added cooling either. Anyways... good info in this thread for sure... just had to put my $.02 in.

Anyone have a Sunoco station nearby? Some of them sell 100 unleaded at the pump. Here's a list of the stations: http://www.racegas.com/gt100locals/default.asp
