Although this one will keep out leaves, it won't filter small, finer particles.  With the fine screen, you can actually drive your car on the street and not worry about even dirt getting to the compressor blades.

I ran a K&N $60+ filter on my TV-turbo around town.  If you are looking for a part number I could probably track it down.  I bought it at Summit but referenced the part form K&N's website.

I would like to warn everone, do not use the fine aluminum screen for doors and windows! Luckily I check my oil and alot of other thing in my engine bay daily, or I would need a rebuild also. Over the course of two or three days of driving, I guess the aluminum fatigued and started to come apart, it was very close to the compresor blades when I found out. I had it on there with a silicone conector cut to size and a worm clamp.  Doh!

I just finished mine... here's a few pictures... I went a little different and purchased from McMaster-Carr 304 Stainless Steel .013" Wire Diameter sheet and bent it around my turbochargers ASME bell... and then clamped it down... It's tough stuff so it took me about an hour of bending to get it around the bell...

looks like ill be trying this mod out. For my pt67 i used a k&n filter. Later found it the turbo had an oil leak at some point, sent it to precision turbo and they said i shouldnt put that filter on as it can be restrictive. So this time ill be making a screen.

So you guys recommend a stainless steel mesh? At what section of Home Depot can you find each parts at?

I just finished my DIY turbo screen late last night. I went with the same materials as member BrentDavis did in post 1. I worked out a sweat maneuvering my hands and my back started to ache since i wasnt able to remove my turbo for the install.

the first attempt made the mesh balloon or mushroom out a bit. So what i did to tighted the mesh onto the inlet was trace and cut cardboard circle in 4" diameter. Then cut a circle of wire mesh 5" diameter.  Pinned down the cardboard and mesh on the turbo inlet then go over the wire mesh with the rubber boot. There still a little wire mesh "plump", but very minimal with the cardboard press.  I wasnt able to fire it up since it was 2am and didnt want to wake the neighboors.

I will take precaution with this wire mesh. For the mean time its just temporary till i get a steel mesh. Ill post pic later tonight.

how harmful is dust to the turbo? cause some of these screens are small enough to keep little debris from getting in but dust can still past.

These are great ideas for the DIY crowd (me) I like the stainless clamp, but the rubber one will work just fine.

screening actually hurts the velocity vortex created by the turbo and costs you power.  I personally did a test on a dyno and on 6psi i seen a gain of 21 rwhp by removing the mesh screen showed above

you can get these strainers on all kinds of sizes , you might even be able to only get the handle off and use a V band to clamp it on the compressorhousing
