update
« Reply #75 on: May 03, 2006, 03:41:55 PM »

Well...seeing as I couldnt get the heads to stop lifting under boost, I decided to update the combo a bit.

I went ahead and threw on some trick flow twisted wedge track heat heads with 1.7 rr's.  I replaced the exploder cam with a f303 unit.  Head studs were a must as were the valve covers.  I went ahead and double wrapped the downpipes with header wrap.  I'll be picking up some turbo blankets from ptk as soon as the get some more in stock.  I have a megasquirt on the way along with a lc-1 wideband controller and a x-16 gauge.

Anyways, on to the pics.

Not the best shot of the intercooler...and I'd like to have much more exposed, but for now it's been sufficient (I think).

Here you can see how I routed my plug wires.  The far back drivers side wire is routed up the firewall and under the upper intake.  It just worked out best that way.

I purchased this because I no longer need my pro-m univer maf with the megasquirt...yet still dont have a bov.  This will convienently fit into the same location and allow me to run my tial 50mm knockoff bov.

Lastly I have my a-pillar mount.  I'll have my x-16 wideband gauge, the cobalt boost gauge and a cobalt water temp gauge.

Another engine shot.  It's a bit more tidy...although not really cleaner.  I've added some t3 turbine blankets and revised the manner in which I'm evacuating the cranckcase.  Out are the breathers and in are some epoxied soda can baffles, valve cover pcv valves, oil seperator, some moroso ultra 40 wires and a bit of heat shielding hear and there.

On to the cold side...

This is how the two turbo's come together before the intercooler

And on to the intercooler...

And the turbo drain (sence been updated with welded bungs & push-loc hose & fittings...

You can see my old oil feed setup in this image.  I've sence tapped the main logg and switched to push-loc fittings for a cleaner look.

And here is the latest pic I have of the setup...again, it's now a bit cleaner and has an updated oil feed and drain setup.

Here is the dyno results...

And the link to a few of my latest vids...

How conservative were you on the tune? How long did it take you to get the hang of the megasquirt?

I'm fairly conservative...but not totally.  I'm throwing quite a bit of timing at it (up to 24* total in some areas), but the aluminum heads greatly contribute to being able to do so.

As far as megasquirt goes....it's really not that bad.  I used autotune to get a rough safe tune down....and then used the datalog viewers auto correct function (GREATLY HELPFULL) to get things much closer.  You slowly start to tune less and less...untill you find everything right where you like it.

Update:

Just a fun little update.  While having some fun on the street I found that I was suddenly low on boost (down to 3-4psi) she was lethargic as all hell.  Come to find out I had a coupler that was almost completely blown off of the intercooler inlet with my merge pipe.  After hooking everything back up….I was suddenly running 12lbs of boost!!!!!  So for the better part of the last 3+ years I have been overspinning the turbo’s making only 8lbs….all while bleeding out 4lbs!!!!  I feel fairly strongly that is likely the cause of my 5000+rpm drop-off on the dyno.  I thought before I had a fairly low amount of lag…but now, holey sh!!!t!!!!!!!   Oohyah!

I'll try to get some track and dyno updates sometime this year (after my shoulder heals from surgergy).  Two Thumbs Up!
