That's why they tell you to tune for .85 lamda, cause then you don't even need to know what the fuel is because almost all fuel make the most power when there is that much air left in the exhaust.
Man this stuff is cool!

Do cooler intake temps from running ethenol or meth translate into cooler exhaust temps at the same boost levels, or do the intake temps only increase if the mixture is too lean? I've wondered that for a while.

Man I love this site! I thought that I was the only one thinking about running E85 as a performance/economical fuel but now I find that its been done!!
Its impossible to find E85 in California, only one public pump,(guess I might thank the oil companies for that) but I've heard its not impossible to make your own E85. A still in the backyard, lol, sounds fun!

I don't think they have any E85 available to the public in CA and AZ (same gasoline market)?
they are already blending ethonal into the fuel now that MTBE is outlawed.

They are 2-3 stations in Tucson that have it available, they are owned and operated by a petroleum company. There are no stations in Phoenix but I hope to change that.
Yes, switching between this fuel and gasoline is pretty easy, for a high perf application you would just want to have 2 different cals setup, 1 for each fuel type.
I also added a video to the 1st post.

So tell me if i am understanding this....In order to run this fuel you obvioulsy should have wideband to make sure your engine is not too lean, right? Then I would be able to adjust the fuel pressure regulator for a proper a/f ration or would i need a ms or some type of stand a lone hooked up to the wideband and tune that way?

Buy a AEM
You need to alter the fuel and timing maps to run this fuel properly. Adjusting the FP is not the way to do this properly.

I would have thought that out here in tree hugger california, there would be ethanol stations on every corner... but, no, I cant find one in the state. I would love to run this stuff, even if I did have to fill up more often, it would still save me a bunch of money.

I am probably wrong but in a standard o2 feedback setup like a factory ford computer you could run this gas and it would richen the mixture on its own since it is constantly getting feedback from the 02's, although it might think something is wrong when it has to add 40% more fuel to obtain the AF ratio it is looking for.

I thought the factory ford stuff could only compensate to a certain point and seems like 40% would be beyond that point.

If some one "In the Know" has access to standard EEC maps and Flex Fuel EEC maps you might be able to burn a custom chip for E85.
That doesn't get you off the hook with fuel system componenets, but does get the fuel maps right.

How would this work with a carb though? Would you need an alcohol carb or would a standard gas carb work? My Uncle has Ron's alcy injection in his racecar, EGT's should be in the 1150-1250 range, if its anywhere near 1300 its lean.

Just a quick note for future users of this. Ethanol will give your tanks and fuel lines an "INSTANT CLEANING". For those of you who plan on running this stuff in your old varnished gas tanks, be carefull. The minute this fuel hits the system, it starts getting rid of all the gas tar that has built up over the years. Plan on having a fresh filter after the car has been run for a bit- Mabey 2 hrs. from the fuel hitting the tank. Here on the East coast they went to the Ethanol mix, like Trent mentioned. That same day, gas stations were shutting down and killing some cars fuel systems from it's cleaning affects. I'm not saying don't use it- it's a great idea. Just a heads up from your local UST tester!

That is not a problem if you correctly convert to E85 complaint fuel system. Which means you need telfon fuel lines and a coated fuel tank, so there is no deposist in the system when you first start it anyways.

I just wanted to give fair warning to those who will only comply with "fast and cheap", in regards to the upside of E85.
