Turbo Camaro build up. (Race video on pg 12)
« on: January 01, 2006, 09:12:22 PM »

Well, I got the first header tacked together today....  It came out pretty good, and I was happy with it....  It's kinda close to the stock control arm, but I'm going with tubulars and it will clear them easily.  They're mild steel, 1 3/4", and I'm going to have them coated...  I would have went with stainless, but this is the first time I've attempted to do this, and I didn't want to mess up a bunch of expensive tubing.  I figured I could build my own set much cheaper than buying a custom made set....  I only have a mig welder, so I'm going to have a friend of mine tig them the rest of the way.  I figured that would be much prettier, and more durable.  I'll keep updating this thread as the build up progresses...  Here's some pics:

I got the piping from Schoenfeld Headers...  A member on the site pointed me in that direction...  They have extremely good prices!  I ordered J and U bends...  They were the same price.  I plan on runnin a PT91.5...  I've got some AFR 227's on the way..  The motor's a 383 sbc...  I'm hoping to have everything together in the next few months....  Thanks for the support!!!! Headers look great.  I was headed in that direction but bought a couple of cast iron turbo manifolds instead.  Putting on a 78 camaro 383 with twin T67's.  Good luck.

2nd header tacked...  Ready for the welder.....  I'm waiting on collectors... I decided that I didn't want to use slip on collectors because I don't want them to leak... I ordered some weld on formed collectors from SPD Exhaust, and they should be bere pretty soon.....  The header bolts are kind of a pain in the ass to get to, and the plugs are easiest to get to from the bottom....  It's pretty easy to get to the header bolts without the valve covers off though...  Here's some pics:

I got the first header back from the welder, and all I can say is that he's a badass!!!  It came out better than I even hoped for....  This guy can probably weld wood...  These look badass as they are, but are going to look mega kick ass when they're coated....  Here's some pics:

I got the passenger side header back today...  It looks mega sweet as well...  I like the drivers side header better.  It was the second one that I built...  After building the first one, I got a little better at cutting the tubing and fitting it up....  They're both still good none-the-less....  The welding job is top notch!!!!
