Its difficult finding maps for the holsets, so i'll just pose this question. Am i asking to much of my HX40 (garrett P trim T4 .96 a/r turbine housing machined to fit with 3.5 inch downpipe) to boost a mild 408 stroker to 7-10 lbs. (Windsor sr. heads, .523 .523 lift cam) it will not see over 6000rpms? I was thinking on building another 351 for it, but if i sell this engine, i'll be taking a hit on it for sure. Only thing i would do is buy a set of lower comp pistons for the 408 (10.5:1 currently) I'll only get one shot at the local track as i have no cage....but its mostly a cruise car.

    A HX40 is just barely bigger than a HX35.

You would need two on a 408, for sure.
Even then that's getting too small.

In fact, you could get away with two H1C's or H1E's. Mustang Billy runs twins on a 302!! (54mm inducer, forget which model numbers)

I forget what the big N series cummins run, HX60 or HX70 or something? That would be closer.

If you didn't have heads and that big of a cam then I would say try it but I think you will be very maxed well before 6000. I might have a HT3B up for sale in the near future. 76mm inducer and large exhaust wheel for low exhaust backpressure. Probably full 10 PSI plus At or before 3500 on that combo.

With all due respect this is bollocks!

I run a single H1E (the 58mm HX40 one) on my 383ci SBC. Admittedly it has the Holset 22cm turbine housing however it runs 12psi with no problems at all from 3000rpm to 5500rpm... thats intercooled boost too!

mine is the 60mm one, i'm not looking to make 700hp after all it will be a street car. Twins would be sick power for sure, more than my stock block could take. i'd be happy with 500-600 hp and the turbo is brand new....not really wanting to get something else at this point. If i can't get what i want out of the 408 i will not give it away....so i may just give it a try. thanks

Interesting, I didn't know they went that big? You might be fine. Still sounds kind of small for a 408!!

i agree it is small, but its not a track car and i'm not shooting for 700hp. I just want to know if it will be good enough to a maximum of 6000rpm and 7-10lbs of intercooled boost before i push it out of its efficiancy range and make a shitload of heat. Opinions are welcome, thats what i'm looking for. Just keep in mind its not a weekend warrior at the track......its a summer cruiser.
