It was way too small- it stayed in boost anytime the truck was under a load.
And thats a bad thing?

And thats a bad thing? it is when you are on the interstate and hit 6psi in OD going up a hill. It was choking the low end- because the compressor was so small it had to wait for spool to move any air. Basically the turbo had to be spinning pretty fast before it could move the air that the truck would need taking off at WOT. With the larger compressor, the truck can get up and go before the turbo is spooling. I was mainly worried about cooking the cats with the exess pressure and heat and sending them through the turbine and/or blowing out what little manifold gaskets I have left

Also, I guess I didnt give an update on the block off plates I made- there was another post about them.
I partially blocked off one side of the turbine with a plate and it brough the spool RPM down to where I want it to be. Now I see boost at 2000-2500RPM. I tried to completely block off one side making it a .42 AR turbine, but that made it spool sooner than the stage 3 turbine I had on it before. The plate on it now halfway blocks one scroll, forcing more exhaust through the other scroll making it spool quicker.

i know every one says faster spool time with this and it obviously werks, but at what point does this restition become a downside, not shure if i am clear here, but basicly spool time vs turbine flow?

also kinda off topic but i am having trouble pumping the oil out of my turbos in my mustang. the turbos are upfront but the are low. I was wondering if you can tell me if you tested and saw how much that pump actually pumped like per minute or whatever. I have a weldon pump now and i was wondering if that pump would be a better one for the car. thanks.

I never tested the flow, but my pump is designed specifically for a turbo return pump- so I never thought twice about it. I do have an oil restrictor on the turbo inlet though.

Ihave remote turbos on my 82 gt and have been working awesome for two years, I used a sureflow pump slightly modified to pump oil. I had to go this route because the guys at sts would not tell me the pump name or sell me one. If you type in "turbo scavenging pump" on the internet this vendor will come up. The pump runs really quite and has given me no trouble.

by the way I had to bring just one line back to feed the turbos AND put a restrictor in or oil would pass through the seals into the exhaust and intake

There are no dyno's around here, so I'll never know. Just an SCT street tune.

Sweetness! Glad to hear the turbo worked out in the end. Very nicely put together setup. Now it's time to slap on a wideband and put some real boost to that motor! Chris

Yeah, I agree with you. The only reason I made it is because poeple on Streetfire were saying it was an eBay exhaust whistle making the noise. I dont like slideshows either...

I have a wideband installed already, and I am waiting on my SCT tune file.

How close does this bring you to the same turbo that you took off with a coldside upgrade? How much bigger are the holes for the flange? And do you have the thread you can post for the plates? Chris

Chris
This turbo partially blocked off still flows alot more than the turbo I took off. Here is the thread for the blockoff plates- mine are at the end of the thread... http://www.turbomustangs.com/smf/index.php?topic=45148.0
