In the low 10s
« on: November 15, 2006, 09:34:40 PM »

Busy working on my 04 mustang gt, and looking to see what others have,
so if you have a 99-04 stang gt and you have managed to run it down in the low 10s, please tell me...
what hp are you running at and what are your mods?
My goal is to get my gt convertable into the low 10s, i'm wanting a TT but also trying to figure out what else i'm gonna need to do it... i also want it to be my daily driver...
Suggestions?

That last video with the white 99 cobra is actually Joe Lynch's Nitrous 4v. That car is awesome, and I think he is actually putting a turbo on there. A ten second 2v vert is possible, exp. with some boost.

i know you said you want a manual but it would take less power to do it with an auto and much easier on the drivetrain

It takes more power with an auto, not less.  I don't think it's easier on the drivetrain, It's just easier to drive. Auto's suck up hp..

Yeah but in a turbo application cars typically pick up e.t. AND mph after the swap to the auto, even though they're making less to the wheels.

I think he was trying to say that you don't need as much power in front of an auto to get into the low 10s than you would with a 5-speed.  For most of us with street-type cars at that ET level, an auto will 60-foot better than a 5-speed (especially since you can foot- or trans-brake it at the line, which builds boost and helps even more with the launch), which does the most to help cut time off of your ET.

Gotcha...

But, I also understand what you were saying.  Autos are responsible for more parasitic drag than 5-speeds are.

Those videos include a Normally Aspirated 5.4L DOHC car that probably launches at 7K rpm, and a nitrous car spraying it off the line.  Now go look for some video of low 10 second manual trans turbo cars, they almost all fall on their face coming out of the hole.  I'm sure they are a blast to drive on the street, but its not the ticket for the strip.

A manual trans, turbo equipped vehicle will require a 2step .. as seen in these videos

I've got the turbo conversion running now and will be running the car in San Antonio later in January.  I hope to go under 10.50 with a single GT-40 turbo.  I have no idea how it will launch but it launched good on nitrous, best of 1.34 60 foot.

I have no idea why that video of my car was put up as a 2v car.  Also, the AFR reading is not correct in that video, bad sensor.  The 10.82 pass at this altitude would have been flying at San Antonio!!

An 01 bullitt supercharged car was recently swapped to a 4R70w.  They lost 8% RWHP due to the swap, but picked up quite a bit of ET.  Unfortunetly I don't remember the number off the top of my head.

Also, people don't realize that you can lock the converter in an auto and eliminate a lot of that HP loss.  With the converter locked, everything is 1 to 1 just like in a manual because there is no slippage.  The only HP loss you will see then is parasitic loss due to the weight of the automatics moving parts.

HOW MUCH DO U WEIGH AND WHATS REMOVED

I weighed around 3170 with me. I'm putting in an aluminum block in the car in the next few months, So it should drop to the 3090-3100 even with my in the car. I removed everything that didn't make it faster or added safety. No air bags, a/c, carpet insulation, door bars, aftermarket seats, no egr system, or evap system ect..
