Master Power Survival Poll
« on: December 10, 2006, 02:45:43 AM »

I for one am getting tired of seeing constant arguments about whether Master Power turbos are any good, but no real data to support either side. I realize that since this is an internet poll, there is no way to protect against lies, but I simply ask that people respond honestly about how a Master Power turbo has worked for him/her and no one else. Please do not vote based on a friend, buddy, other guy at the track, etc... only one's own personal experience.

So far so good with mine. I have had some oil in the exhaust issues a couple times since i put it on, but it was because of my drain not being routed correctly and the oil backed up. It wasn't because of the turbo.

edit: I have a 62-1.

Well, I am really happy with mine.  It survived five sets of blown headgaskets.  My fault (got it sorted out now).  Finally on the last time I fubarred it.  Had to have it completely rebuilt.  New shaft, etc.  Had Garrett internals installed.  Brian at BG CUSTOM TURBO treated me right.  Got it back recently and am currently having both housings ceramic coated.  A+ for the turbo be tough as hell.

mine runs fine for quite sometime now.  i got it used off someone here.  ive put just over 5000 miles on it.  some long stretches of driving.  ive been fairly hard on it to I'm an Angel!.  it seems its very difficult to not romp on the throttle on a regular basis with a turbo car.  but ive checked the turbo a few times nothing ive noticed wrong yet.  so another
+1 for mpt70's Two Thumbs Up!

Mine had a faulty seal with less than 3k miles.  They are definately not a garrett turbo but if I found one for cheap with blown seals or just generally needed a rebuild, I wouldn't have any problem having it rebuilt with garrett parts and running it.

I have had about 10 failures out of the last 30 bought........BUT..... Out of the last 8 there were no failures, I believe it may have just been a quality control problem, which seems to be fixed. thank god.

The last mp 3 t-70's we got in also seem to have a bigger shaft. Don't know if it is through out but this is a solid step forward for the company.

If the failure rate stays down we may actually start including them in the kits again.

I am going to stick this one at the top because i feel it is needed.  Lets be the first to document end user experiance on the master power line.  List the actual turbo as well, so we can see if there is a decisive variance between sizes.

Dont know if you know this or what it is but masterpower is a iso9000 company which is pretty hard to recieve that certification and then the "certifiers" come pay you a visit either once every six months or twelve months to make sure the quality is where it should be and that you are doing thinigs you say you are.

very good point, I've never seen this point made before and it is a very valid one, I worked quality control/part repair in an iso9000 production facility for a bit during college, I know keeping the designation is time consuming and I never even gave it a thought that they meet this certification.

yup, very hard to get that status, and i think they will pull random units to check also, not one that they "have" for them to check.
