www.car-parts.comjust gotta look up the right car and look around. Several other cars used that same ecm. $50 or less is no problem, found a yard 1 day that had 2 called them and had them ship both. Was right at $50 for both shipped with 30 day warranty. You could use the wiring harness from a camaro with a 730 ecm, or built a new harness which isn't THAT hard to do. Not claiming it is better than say BS3 or FAST, just an alternative and being native to my truck was plug and play. I am working now getting the 749 to run AGAIN in my buick t type. Had it running before but have some issues to resolve and not sure where they are yet. I will get it. There is a nissan guy running the 749 running code59 on the board, several other interesting projects.

Got the rest of the block taken apart. Detonation is 99% the cause from what we saw. The cap side of main bearing was hammering, top side just had crude on it telling me crank was coming out the bottom, or trying to.
Block is at the shop for a hone, and align bore (2nd main back was out of round by .0012, rest were .0005 or less). Better to do it right.
Crank is getting dropped off at crank grinders today.
I see a lot of guys using hellfire rings, anybody have a reason I shouldn't use this?

Did you buy main studs to stick in it? now is the time if you're doing a bore/hone on it.

I just watched that yesterday on Trucks congratulations to both of you. It must be very rewarding to see your work on national TV. BTW I also wanted to ask how those small filters are working for you since I may need to use one on my T-70. Do you think the filter will support that kind of flow based on your experience?

The filters are not as small as camera made them look.
I had smaller filters at first, took them off and made a pass with no ET difference.
The ones I have now are KN, ends are filter element also.

What do you want to see? After the tore up bearings we went through it again, new rings, hone, align bore, ground crank, new oil pump. 250miles later, 3rd pass we think the oil pump (HV/HP) just plan moved all the oil to the heads leaving nothing in the pan. I get to do it all again. This time I think it is going to get a few upgraded parts, including a forged crank/rods/4 bolt caps. Since it is winter taking my time. Modified the hood for some extra air flow, plan to repaint about half the truck while apart and clean up all the lose ends.

Forgive me for going off topic but I used a HV oil pump (not HP) but I added a 7qt pan. Do you think that I will run into any problems? I have read a lot of info about this problem but like everything else everybody has a different opinion. When I primed my engine all of the extra oil seemed to bypass and run right back down thru the rear of the lifter valley so I figured I would be fine. Thanks in advance for any input. Rodney

I've always been advised against hv pumps for that reason. I always shimmed the press reg spring in a stock pump. The higher pressure is what you really need to keep the film from beating out not volume IMO.

Guess i should bring this post back up from the dead, as the truck is still going on with the project. Picture from last summer in Bowling Green, ran 11.4's in 95+ degree heat, 6psi of boost, 4,000 lbs, pump gas. A week after this picture I was playing with turning up the boost, and started with e85 tune. Broke my transmission output shaft in 2. (4l80e) So I went ahead and machined my own from better material, heat treated, etc. In the midst of all this I have always wanted to run in an open road race such as Big Bend in Texas. (which leads me to a story about this white typhoon I am acquiring but that for another day) www.bborr.comI am scheduled to run in this event the end of April. Always wanted to so nows the time. My goal for race will be to average 125mph over 120 miles. Closest to average their speed (several classes) wins. My max speed will be 140mph which is more than enough for an aerodynamic brick. So with the ET sub 11.5's already and wanting to be safe it was time to install a roll bar. Just bent the door bars last night still need to make the front pivot mounts but I am really happy with how it has turned out, being I have never done a cage before. I also ordered a few other parts including a new boost/alky controller www.isacalky.com so after the race I plan to inch the truck into the 10's. O yea, I plan to drive it to work often this summer also. We shall see how the summer goes.

Finished up the roll bar this weekend. Roll bars sure do change the "feel" of a car, almost makes it feel like a damn race car now even just sitting in the garage.
After all my effort to retain the AC I have finally decided to remove it (for now). I have no idea where to mount the condensor and still be able to keep the engine cool, so for now it will be removed to clean the engine up. I will save everything because you never know.
Gotta order a few last minute parts, but the big project (roll bar) is done, leaving me just a list of small projects. I feel better about being ready but still not comfortable yet.
I did work on tow rig sunday (motorhome) and get it ready to properly haul a trailer.
Hopefully with the weather better I can start driving it to work and get a few miles on it, make sure any bugs are worked out before the race. Once the race is done back to the drag strip for sure, I want a 10 second slip this year with a few more psi I know it will go. Idling in the garage on e85 it just sounds mean and ready, I can't wait.

Spent all weekend getting many many loose ends tied up. Those things you say one day I will fix, mostly simple stuff nobody sees but stuff that bugs you when you build them. Also got both seats mounted and both harnesses installed. Took the AC out and in the process destroyed the heater core, had a nice puddle of water when I fired it up. Oops, 1 step back 10 forward is not bad.

I am still trying to reach the pedals, probably why I never get to drive it. Actually thats my son who turns 2 next year, trying to break him into the car/garage stuff. He already has to carry a hot wheels around with him 24/7. One of his few words so far is DAR (car). He is a master at moving my tools around, only time he will put a hot wheels down is to pick up a screwdriver and try to help out which isn't always good for the paint job.
